Acquiring MIX

The MIX software can be downloaded via the links in the Download section. If you click a download link you will be taken to the SourceForge servers (a repository of free and open source software where the MIX resides) and a window will pop up asking you where you would like to save the MIX set-up program). Save it anywhere on your computer.

Installation

The setup program is meant for Windows computers, so if you have a MAC or Linux operating system, please use a Windows emulator (this is a module that allows you to run Windows software on MAC or Linux systems; the MIX setup and the program itself should run without problems in these environments as well).

Another important prerequisite to have MIX run without problems is to have your version of Microsoft Office fully updated. The easiest way to ensure your Office is fully updated is to use the Microsoft Update software. This is NOT the same as Windows Update; the latter only updates Windows whereas the first updates Windows as well as other Microsoft software, including Excel, on your system. Another option is to go to the Microsoft Office website and use the Office Update software that can be run from there.

Once you have made sure your system fulfills the requirements, you can double-click the icon of the set-up program that you have downloaded from the MIX website. After this the installation program will start and if you follow the instructions MIX will be installed automatically and you will soon have a new menu in your Start Folder called MIX.

The MIX submenu in your Windows Start menu will contain a shortcut to the MIX program, an Info folder with a Quick Start Guide, and links to the Program Tour, the Theory Tour, and to the MIX website. It also includes an Uninstall folder with a program that can automatically remove MIX from your computer. Depending on your choices, you may have a new MIX icon on your Desktop and/or in your Quick Launch bar. In short… you are now ready to use MIX.
